St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada – PAL Aerospace is pleased to announce that a member of its Environmental Services Team has been inducted into the Offshore Energy Center Hall of Fame. Bevin LeDrew, M.Sc. a Principal with the PAL Aerospace Environmental Services Team, and long-time environmental consultant in the Province, served as Director with the Royal Commission on the Ocean Ranger Marine Disaster.

This year, the Offshore Energy Center, Houston, Texas has recognized the work of the Commission on improving offshore safety. The Center has selected the Ocean Ranger Investigation and Reports for the Pioneering Technology Award in the Health, Safety and Environment Category.

The Induction citation states that the Report of the Royal Commission had “significant and immediate impact on the design of MODUS (Mobile offshore drilling units), as well as their regulation, classification and safety at sea.”

Bevin was Director of Studies and responsible for the “Part Two” mandate of the Royal Commission, i.e. seeking opportunities to improve safety offshore.

The citation points out that the methods developed and applied by the Royal Commission “served as a model for future incidents” and that the Royal Commission Recommendations “had a significant influence on all offshore vessels and structures outside the offshore oil and gas industry”.

The induction ceremony takes place at the Ocean Star Gala on Saturday September 23, 2017 Westin Galleria, Houston Texas. The Offshore Energy Center was established in 1989and is dedicated to expand awareness of the vast energy resources available beneath the world’s oceans and to chronicle the unique heritage and technological accomplishments of the industry that discovers, produces, and delivers these resources to mankind in a safe and environmentally responsible way.
